The history of Victoria Mills

At the end of the 19th century there were over 400 textile mills in Bradford and Victoria Mills was amongst the very best. It was built in 1873 by Henry Mason who followed Sir Titus Salts lead in locating outside the city centre , seeking clean air and a good quality of life for the hundreds of workers plus proximity to the Leeds -Liverpool canal, the river Aire and the all important new railway line which was the future for fast and cost- effective textiles transport.

Victoria Works was a fully integrated mill, taking raw wool and carrying out all processes involved in making the finest quality suiting cloth which was exported world wide. Sat in an 5.5 acre site next to the river and close to the canal ,there are three imposing Victorian mill buildings in the fabulous Venetian warehouse style; stone construction with huge windows and high brick-vaulted ceilings.

The conversion to residential use took place 2005-8 with minimal intervention to the Grade II listed buildings and with the addition of three new award-winning buildings in a modern style but using tradition materials. The 449 apartments sit in a tranquil setting with gardens, a multi-story car park and close proximity to a fast train service to Leeds / Bradford/Skipton/Ilkley .The World Heritage Salts Mill is a short walk away as are good shops, dining beautiful countryside. Victoria Mills offers wonderful quality and life-style.
